Fun & easy to make with fresh or frozen Brussels Sprouts!
Ingredients
- 3-4 cups brussels sprouts (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- Seasoning to taste (I use garlic powder, salt, and black pepper)
Step One
Steam your brussels sprouts until they are fork tender. If you are using frozen brussels sprouts, they can often be cooked in the microwave right in the bag to make this even easier.
Step Two
Toss them with a few tablespoons of olive oil and then season to your liking. Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet and smash with the bottom of a glass cup.
Step Three
Evenly spoon grated Parmesan cheese over top and bake in the center rack of a 450° F oven for 12-15 or until they are done to your liking.
Enjoy these deliciously crispy brussels sprouts as a side dish for dinner with just about any protein. They are wonderful with chicken, steak, bbq, seafood, and more. This has become a family favorite vegetable for just about any meal!
You can also try this ingenious cooking hack with potatoes, broccoli, carrots, and more. The smashing process creates crispier edges on a variety of veggies!
Crispy Parmesan Smashed Brussels Sprouts
A bit hit with my picky family! These oven roasted brussels sprouts are a game changer. If you're looking for easy vegetable side dishes to make for dinner, you've got to try this fun and easy way of baking brussels sprouts.
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 3-4 cups brussels sprouts (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- seasoning to taste (salt, pepper & garlic powder)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450° F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- If using fresh brussels sprouts, trim the bottoms, remove any bad leaves, and give them a good washing. Steam or boil them until fork tender. If using frozen brussels spouts, cook them according to the package instructions (sometimes you can do this in the microwave).
- Toss the cooked brussels sprouts with about 2 tbsp of olive oil and then season to your liking. I use salt, black pepper and garlic powder.
- Spread them out onto your prepared baking sheet and smash them with the bottom of a glass cup.
- Evenly spoon the grated parmesan cheese over top.
- Bake uncovered in the center rack of your preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are done to your liking.
Notes
- Although frozen brussels sprouts are much more convenient, I do find that fresh sprouts get a little crispier. I use whatever is in season or I happen to have on hand.
- If you like your veggies crispy like me, you can also try this fun method of cooking with other vegetables! It works well with baby potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and baby carrots.
- The grated parmesan cheese adds to the crunch factor of these yummy sprouts. The more that falls onto the baking sheet, the crispier they get.
- Try experimenting with different seasonings. In addition to the usual salt, pepper and garlic powder, my family also really enjoys smoked paprika and Montreal Steak Seasoning on these brussels sprouts.
- I published these crispy smashed brussels sprouts originally on one of my other blogs. You can find addition photos and more there along with a lot of other fun & healthy recipes like this! 🙂
